A small Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust preserve near the Harpswell border, with about 0.6 miles of trails and some of the oldest trees on the peninsula. Two short loops offer views of the sMiddle Bay Cove salt marsh. A small stream provides some gentle background noise. Dogs are not permitted.
Close by is a traditional Native American canoe portage site called Merriconeag, which means “carrying place.” The preserve was also the site of a shipyard in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Directions: From Maine Street in Brunswick, take a left on Bath Road (Route 24) after the Congregational Church. Turn right at the first light, onto Harpswell Road/Route 123. Continue straight for 3.5 miles until you see the small parking area (perhaps big enough for one car) and preserve sign on right. It can be quite hard to back out into the road from here, so take care.
