Hackett Land Preserve and Minot Easement, Harpswell

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 39 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~1.2-mile loop
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: forest

This trail offers nothing but woods, which is actually somewhat of a relief after all the majestic vistas of many of the other preserves on this site! The trail wends its way through the quiet, moss-covered forest, along a ridge and by a large vernal pool. The trail departs from the Harpswell Historical Society on Route 123, where you can park.

The trail crosses the unpaved Littlefield Road, forming two half circles. Of the two sides, the northern side offers slightly easier walking, as well as the vernal pool. Starting in either direction, the trail begins down on a mowed path along a narrow cleared corridor before turning into the woods. Harpswell Heritage Land Trust protects this beautiful preserve.

Directions: From the intersection of Harpswell Neck Road (Route 123) and Mountain Road, follow Harpswell Neck Road south 2 miles. Park at the Harpswell Historical Society building on the left. Cross the road and walk down the private Littlefield Road until you see signs for the trail.
