John A. Segur Wildlife Refuge

Lovell, Oxford County

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 596 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 2.1 miles
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: wetlands, Sucker Brook

The Greater Lovell Land Trust protects this 596-acre preserve, where you can make a pleasant hike of about 2.1 miles (the loop is about 1.3 miles). If you start on the green trail and do the loop clockwise, you’ll reach a spur trail in about 0.4 miles to a pretty view over the marshy brook. Back on the green trail, you’ll reach another spur trail in another 0.4 miles to a 0.4-mile there-and-back leg that brings you to a beautiful view over Sucker Brook.

Additionally, west and north of the preserve is a 0.3 mile trail that brings you to another brook overlook. I found this path to be a little overgrown when I walked it.

Directions: From Route 5, turn onto West Lovell Road. Go a little under two miles to Timber Bay Shores Road (or F Road), and take a left. The second road on your right, about a mile in, will be Farrington Pond Road. Stay right when the road forks, and the trailhead and large parking area (plowed in the winter) is a little ways up this road on your left.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
