River’s Edge Preserve

Falmouth, Cumberland

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 24 acres
  • Trail Mileage: 0.25 miles one way
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Presumpscot River

Behind a housing development, you can find a couple of parking spaces and a 0.25-mile trail that continues down a hill, through some meadows and by trees wreathed in vines (the invasive bittersweet), to a nice spot at the riverbank. You’ll cross a power line corridor along the way.

The walking is easy, on a wide stone-dusted path — though there is that hill to the river. It seems as if the Falmouth Land Trust means to create more switchbacks to ease the descent. The land trust also indicates it’ll plant more native species here, as well as tackle the bittersweet.

Directions: The small parking area, with two spots, and trailhead kiosk are at the end of Eagle Lane, off
