QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: Not sure
  • Trail Mileage: ~0.8 miles to lake
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: Sebago Lake

At this walk, on land protected by the Sebago Lake Land Reserve, you can follow an unmarked but easy-to-follow trail system with three prongs to three nice spots by the lake.

From the fairly large parking area, you’ll start on the main trail — the most obvious one — and in about 0.8-mile you’ll reach a tiny sandy beach. The trail slopes almost gently down to the water from the trailhead, becoming just a hair steeper as you approach the water. On our visit, someone had set up a long board as a bench, shaded by witch hazel. The swimming is refreshing, but you’ll have to climb, and maybe slip!, over a few shallow boulders to reach deeper water.

About 0.1 mile from the lake, the main path passes side trail to the left. In 0.1 mile, you’ll reach an even lovelier beach at the end of this prong. The small sandy strip seems to offer fairly easy water access, but there are still boulders scattered about in the water. Finally, the third prong, farthest to the south, brings you to a rockier stretch of the lake.

In addition, a couple of short trails connect to adjacent neighborhoods, where there are No Parking signs.

The Sebago Lake Land Reserve asks visitors to fill out a permit at the trailhead kiosk and slip it into the locked box.

Directions: The sizable parking lot and trailhead are off Pond Road, an unpaved road, about 0.25 miles from the intersection with Whites Bridge Road. The parking area is just past the turn onto Travelers Way.
