Shackford Head State Park, Eastport

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 90 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~3 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Sights: shingle beach, views,

This is a great walk close to the little town of Eastport. It offers a couple of pebbly beaches, as well as well-marked trails along the edge of the sea. I ate some of the best wild blueberries I’ve ever had here. You can check out aquaculture pens from the trails. The perimeter trail is less than three miles.

There is a little side trail from the parking lot down to a beach. It also extends to some raspberry brambles, but it was too overgrown to walk along when I visited in the summer of 2016.

Directions: Take Route 1 to Route 190 in Perry. Travel 7 miles, passing the Passamaquoddy Indian Reservation and a causeway. Approaching the city of Eastport, the road bends to the left. Take a hard right-hand turn here onto Deep Cove Road, and travel 0.8 miles to the parking area and trailhead.

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
