The main loop here is roughly 1.3 miles, with a side jaunt to see a vernal pool and a small spur trail to a pretty marsh. There are also covered picnic table, nature signs, and several benches placed along the pleasant trail. The 100-acre preserve includes an outdoor amphitheater, about a half-mile or so walk from the large parking lot. The town, with help from volunteers, protects and maintains this preserve.

Directions: From the south follow Rte 197 (Richmond Road). Coming from the east take a right or from the west take a left onto Hallowell-Litchfield Road at the Libby Tozier School. Follow Hallowell-Litchfield Road to Libby Road. Take a left onto Libby Road. Follow Libby Road watching for sign and parking area for Smithfield Plantation on the left. From the north, follow Hallowell-Litchfield Road taking a right on Libby Road at the Fire Station. Follow Libby Road watching for sign and parking area for Smithfield Plantation on the left. The parking lot is quite large.
