Trout Brook Preserve

Alna, Lincoln County

QUICK TRAIL FACTS

  • Preserve Size: 126 acres
  • Trail Mileage: ~1.7 miles in network
  • Pets: yes
  • Difficulty: easy to moderate
  • Sights: a beautiful brook, narrow gauge railway

This 126-acre preserve, protected by the Midcoast Conservancy, offers a few idyllic places to sit on flattish rocks along Trout Brook. At one of the larger ledges, you can watch water trickling down a tiny waterfall. The water level in the brook and its feeder streams will vary depending on the time of year you visit.

After leaving the parking lot, you’ll walk a short trail to the narrow gauge railroad tracks. The trail was rerouted in 2021 to avoid the tracks altogether. After reaching the railroad and taking a left, you’ll be directed to cross the tracks before the bridge and to walk alongside the rail line to reach the entrance to the trail system on your right.

Close to the train track, you can walk a few feet off the path to read about the history of narrow gauge railway in Maine and efforts to preserve it.

The two loops in the preserve includes small ups and downs, roots, and rocks.

Directions:From Wiscasset, take Route 218 North for 7.5 miles to the Alna Store. Continue on Rt 218 for 1/2 mile. The preserve parking lot and kiosk are located on the left just past Peaslee Road (on the right).

Let me know if you have any trail updates or corrections!
