Twin Bridges Preserve is part of a vast area protected by the Western Foothills Land Trust that includes over 1,000 acres of working forest, 84 acres of wetlands, 4.5 miles of the Crooked River, and more than 2 miles of stream habitat.

The stretch of Crooked River you can explore in the Twin Bridges Preserve is beautiful. The five miles of trails here, but especially the riverside trails, offer many pretty views, especially the narrower Hankins and Pierce trails.

Most of the walking is easy and flat, with the trails alternating between wider paths and single track. There are signs at every intersection, but it’s helpful to bring a trail map since there are many trails packed into this spot! The only downside to the walking experience here is the nearby shooting range.

The Crooked River, at 62 miles, is the largest tributary to Sebago Lake, and the birthplace to almost 100 percent of the lake’s landlocked salmon.

Directions: The trailhead is off Route 17, just about 100 yards of so from the rest stop. The trailhead has a parking area for about six cars.
