Located on the southeast slope of Farrington Hill in Andover, Akers Ski maintains an old-school cross-country touring center with trails starting at their ski shop in the center of town. The trails are narrow and windy with a lot of elevation change throughout the trail network. Many trails are snowmobile packed for classic skiing, while others are left ungroomed. Some of these ungroomed trails are quite steep and semi gladed, perfect for backcountry Nordic skis. They also have a smaller network of snowshoe trails. Note that the map on this page only shows ski trails that were marked and groomed as of February 2026; other trails are shown on the official trail map.
The trails feel remote, and occasional glimpses of the surrounding mountains add to that feeling. In the middle of the trail system is a lean-to, which is a nice spot to take a break. Because there are so many trails, navigation can get a little tricky at times, but you will likely figure out where you are once you reach an intersection with signage. All of the trails are bi-directional, except for Steepies, which is uphill only, and Bumps, which is downhill only. There also seem to be a few trails which don’t show up on the trail map. Because of its location in the mountains, Akers generally has good snow, and the trail system is best skied when the snow is soft, as the trails are packed as opposed to groomed.
Directions: Akers Ski is located at 51 Akers Way in Andover. From the center of Andover, head west on Newton Street. In 0.2 mile, turn left onto Pine Street. After 400 feet, turn left onto Akers Way, which is the driveway for Akers Ski. This is the best place to park, although alternative parking can be found at the Andover Library when it is not open.
