Located off of Porter Avenue in downtown Rumford, this small trail system quickly takes you away from the dense neighborhoods and into the forest. The trails are on private land generously opened to the public for non-motorized winter use.
The trails are accessed via the Porter Avenue snowmobile trail. There are three entrances off the snowmobile trail and all are marked with signs and maps.
The trails climb a rather steep hillside away from the snowmobile trail to a ridge, and, in one spot, a tap line assists with climbing or descending an especially steep slope.
There is one main loop, with other small trails offering variations to the loop. The trails are groomed for walking with or without snowshoes, but skiing is not recommended on the big loop, due to very large and steep hills. The trails connect to a much larger network of snowmobile and other unmarked trails, offering lots of opportunities for exploring on skis or snowshoes. You can use the snowmobile trails to connect the trails here to Rumford Community Forest and Pennacook Area Community Trails.
Directions: The trailhead is located between 200 and 222 Porter Avenue West in Rumford. From the traffic light at the intersction of Lincoln Avenue and Hancock Street, head west on Lincoln Avenue. In 0.3 mile, turn right on Piscataquis Street. In 0.2 mile, turn left on Porter Avenue West. The trailhead will be on the right. Parking is roadside; be sure not to block traffic.
