- Sights: huge white pines, Alder Brook
This very short trail, at Ashley J. Wing Park, in Norridgewock is not a hiking destination, but it is a nice spot to sit and enjoy nature. It leads to what was once one of the largest known white pine trees in the state. Unfortunately, the tree has lost a few of its major limbs in recent years, but the huge trunk and remaining limbs are still very impressive!
From the large parking lot (it is also a park & ride lot of the Kennebec Valley Rail Trail), the trail quickly reaches a viewing platform and a set of stairs leading down to the pine tree. There are other large pines surrounding it, making for a pretty shaded glen alongside Alder Brook.
