  • Pets: yes

Thanks to the High Peaks Alliance, there is now a wonderful 0.85 mile-long trail at Shiloh Pond Community Forest. It’s a great easy hike with a lot to see along its short length!

Starting at the trailhead, the trail follows an old logging road and soon passes a short spur to Little Shiloh Pond. A bit farther down the trail, there is a junction with the trail straight ahead leading a short distance to the shore of Shiloh Pond. The unsigned trail to the right is marked with a blue blaze and heads uphill on an old road. The trail is occasionally blazed in blue and follows a mix of old roads and footpaths through hardwood forest. It ends at Reed Brook to the west of Shiloh Pond, where there is a beautiful waterfall to enjoy.

Note: The access road to the preserve, Shiloh Pond Road, may be subject to road closures through May or even later depending on road conditions.

Directions: From Main Street (Route 27), turn onto Tufts Pond Road. It’s the first left immediately after the Maine Huts and Trails building if you’re headed north toward Sugarloaf Mountain. Follow Tufts Point Road for about 2.8 miles — it’ll eventually turn into Shiloh Pond Road. The road conditions will begin deteriorating — it’s best to have a high-clearance car! After following Shiloh Pond Road for about half a mile, turn left to continue following the road to the trailhead kiosk and good-sized parking area. This last section of the road might be rutted and bumpy.
